Ben is a Seattlite and organizer of the Seattle WordPress Developer Meetup. When not out sailing, Ben can be found hacking out WordPress code and working from the inside to show Microsoft how cool Open Source is. Ben has worked with companies from mom & pop shops to multinational corporations, consulting on building effective web platforms and strategies.
Ben can track his involvement with the WordPress community way back before it was even WordPress (B2, in fact, which was the name of the former project that was forked and became WordPress). As a software engineer, Ben helped build the BBC News Website. He also rolled out the BBC’s blogging platform (sadly not WordPress) and its developer platform.
Since moving State-side in 2006, Ben has worked as a technologist and strategist – launching the MySpace Platform and advising numerous startups in his portfolio – including Apture (acquired by Google) and NutShell Mail (acquired by Constant Contact). Ben has blogged since 2004 on all manner of technology topics at http://benmetcalfe.com/blog/, which was previously one of the top 50 blogs in the UK.

Lucy Beer of WebTrainingWheels has been using WordPress since 2004 and working in online marketing for even longer. She spends her days helping individuals and businesses learn how to use WordPress for their specific purpose. Stand too close to her and she’ll turn you into a WordPress-savvy nerd without you realizing it. She also works with businesses to coach and consult them on their online marketing strategies, and teaches group workshops and classes. Although not a full-blown developer, she actually likes coding (weird, huh?). When not doing these things, you’ll find her reading books in fine coffeeshops around LA (her nerdery extends offline too), or possibly on top of a hill in Topanga. She’s originally from Manchester, England although many years in Los Angeles have made her talk funny, acquire a taste for fro-yo and get annoyed by overly enthusiastic greeters in stores.
